Before Wrangler was completely unable to move his back legs I found it was sometimes easier to quickly take him out using a harness rather than putting him in his cart. Using a harness you can lift all the weight off your dogs back end and their legs hang free but since you are supporting all the weight it’s much easier for them than a cart. When I used the harness with Wrangler he would try to use his back legs and walk along with me. It’s more work for you, as you have to carry the weight of your dog, but it’s nice and easy when going out for quick pees.
I used a homemade harness which was simply 3 dog collars linked together. 2 collars around each of Wrangler’s back legs and the 3rd collar was the handle.

The only other store bought harness I’ve seen is the HelpEmUp harness. The cost for a medium sized dog is $100 US, it’s a bit pricey but it works great. There are also 3 straps you have to connect which is not difficult but it still takes time. What I liked so much about my homemade harness was the simplicity and how quickly I could slip it on Wrangler to take him out. Hmmmm maybe this should be my next business idea, although I can’t take the credit for coming up with this, Shelly from Love on a Leash gave it to me. Here is a link to the HelpEmUp website.
Do you find using a harness is helpful, if so what do you use?
