Hoarse Bark

The reason why DM dogs develop a hoarse bark is a bit of a mystery to me.  I’ve read that the hoarse bark develops in the later stages and I thought it possibly had something to do with the respiratory problems that DM dogs can develop.  I feel like Wrangler is entering the later stages now with some of the other symptoms I’m seeing and the hoarse bark is one of them.  However, Wrangler’s friend Clancy developed the hoarse bark early on so it’s still a bit of a mystery.  Wrangler sounds more like a seal than a dog, it’s a high pitch noise, and it’s...

Kicking Feet While Sleeping

One thing you’ll notice about dogs with DM is that they kick their legs quite a lot while they sleep.   I read somewhere that it has something to do with the nerves firing while they are sleeping, although I can’t find any more information on it.   If Wrangler is sleeping in my bed he can have episodes where he’ll kick both legs at the same time, this can last up to 20 or 30 seconds.   If this happens to your dog and their feet are facing you be prepared to get kicked.   They don’t seem to notice this is happening and sleep right through it.   Just another weird quirk...
