After 2 weeks on Fortekor Wrangler hasn’t had any more episodes. The meds seem to be working.  I’m still not convinced.  Wrangler has always had an irregular heart beat and every time I go to a new vet they comment on how bad his heart is but I’ve also read many times that long term symptoms of Degenerative Myelopathy are difficulty swallowing, and eventually respiratory problems.  To me this seems to be more the case with Wrangler.  The vet didn’t comment at all that this could be caused by DM.  I guess no matter what the cause is if he’s having respiratory and...

Boxers tend to have sensitive stomachs and Wrangler is no exception.  I try not to give him people food but sometimes I can’t resist the look he gives me and I cave.  Usually a few hours later when he is outside eating grass and heaving like he’s going to puke I curse myself, especially when it happens at 2 in the morning.  When a dog with DM is sick it is a huge pain in the butt.  You can’t simply open the back door and let them go out and eat grass until they puke and feel better.  I don’t even have a back yard in Vancouver, so it’s an extra pain for me....
