Walkin Wheels Dog Carts

Posted on Aug 19, 2013 in Blog, Dog Carts, Walkin Wheels

Like all great battles, the battle for the best dog cart isn’t any different.  People seem to land passionately on one side or the other.  The two sides in this battle being Eddie’s Wheels and Walkin Wheels.  I don’t have first hand experience with Walkin’ Wheels carts but I talked to a few people who do and they passionately defend their choice in dog carts and are not afraid to tell you about their distaste for the competition.  Luckily since competition always benefits the consumer this means good news for us. Walkin’ Wheels Cart Benefits Folds flat for easy...

Eddie’s Wheels Dog Carts

Posted on Aug 14, 2013 in Blog, Dog Carts, Eddie's Wheels

For those of you that already have a cart for your dog this isn’t anything you don’t already know.  However, for anyone new coming to the site choosing the best cart for your dog can seem a little confusing.  In my opinion it’s a case of too much information.  When you first find out your dog has degenerative myelopathy and you decide you want to get a cart your search will inevitably lead you to Eddie’s Wheels.  In my opinion Eddie’s Wheels carts are great for dogs with DM. My only complaint about Eddie’s Wheels is that for a first time visitor to their website...

DM Harnesses

Posted on Jun 27, 2011 in Blog, Harnesses

Before Wrangler was completely unable to move his back legs I found it was sometimes easier to quickly take him out using a harness rather than putting him in his cart.  Using a harness you can lift all the weight off your dogs back end and their legs hang free but since you are supporting all the weight it’s much easier for them than a cart.  When I used the harness with Wrangler he would try to use his back legs and walk along with me.  It’s more work for you, as you have to carry the weight of your dog, but it’s nice and easy when going out for quick pees. I used a...

Variable Balance Cart

Posted on May 16, 2011 in Blog, Dog Carts, Eddie's Wheels

When I found out Wrangler had DM I didn’t really know what to expect, I couldn’t find any websites that were very informative, and I didn’t really get any good information from my vet either.  I took Wrangler to the vet a few times for his sore left leg before I found some information online and then took Wrangler back to ask if that could be what was wrong.  The vet agreed and when I asked him how long he had, he said every day I had with Wrangler was a good day.  That was a year ago and the whole thing seemed pretty grim. Finding a cart was the next obstacle I had to deal...

Dragging Feet and Dog Boots

Posted on Feb 17, 2011 in Blog, Dog Boots, Early Symptoms, Product Reviews

Unfortunately Wrangler has now started to drag his back feet while he’s in his cart and his paws have started to bleed.   I’ve tried several different kinds of shoes but didn’t really find anything that didn’t fall off or didn’t hinder wrangler trying to use his back legs.  Websites have mixed feelings on whether you should use boots on dogs with DM.  Some sites claim it does more harm than good. The best boots I found that actually are Pawz Reusable Dog Boots, they are little rubber boots that look almost like balloons.  They are tight enough that he...

A Dog Cart, Really?

Posted on Aug 15, 2010 in Blog, Early Symptoms, Eddie's Wheels, Product Reviews

By Aug 2009 Wrangler could only make it around 1 block and fell constantly and could no longer walk on hard wood floors. I’d seen dogs in movies with carts and when I researched DM, a lot of the websites suggested getting a cart to assist with walking. I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do or if I should put Wrangler down so he wouldn’t suffer. I could tell in his eyes he still wanted to keep going and had the desire to live, so I decided to give the cart a try. I thought even if it bought him another month or 2, at least I’d done all I could and would feel...
