Bella’s Gift

A few months ago I shared a link about a woman named Jeanine Mioton who ran the 2013 New York City Marathon as a way to raise money for Bella’s Gift, a fundraiser dedicated to helping disabled dogs get wheelchairs from Eddie’s Wheels. Bella is part shepherd, part mastiff mix and has DM. I thought it was amazing that Jeanine ran the NYC marathon for DM so I emailed her to ask her some more questions. Ten years ago Jeanine and her ex-husband adopted Bella from the ASPCA when she was two months old. She was the cutest and sweetest puppy they had ever seen. From the time she was a...

Posted on Sep 23, 2013 in Bladder Infections, Blog, Early Symptoms, Long Term Symptoms

Does Degenerative Myelopathy Hurt? Even though it should be common knowledge by now that degenerative myelopathy is not a painful disease there may be times when your dog can’t get comfortable and starts to whine and may even seem like its in pain. I want to re-assure you that degenerative myelopathy is NOT a painful disease however, it can be very frustrating for your dog. Certain breeds of dogs have a lot of energy and when they can’t do exactly what they want they get frustrated. Thats why you should always give your dog lots of physical exercise to keep them entertained and...

Free Cart and Stroller

Posted on Sep 9, 2013 in Blog, Cart Donation

I was recently contacted by Deborah Miller who had a boxer named Zack with Degenerative Myelopathy. Zack was Deborah’s third boxer and a rescue dog. Deborah did everything she could for him and cared for him for over a year and a half as he battled with DM. Unfortunately the disease got to be too much and she had to let him go. 8 months later she still hasn’t been able to completely move on and get another dog. To help put her heart at ease Deborah would like to generously donate Zack’s Eddies Wheels cart and his stroller. They are both in excellent condition and the...

Like all great battles, the battle for the best dog cart isn’t any different.  People seem to land passionately on one side or the other.  The two sides in this battle being Eddie’s Wheels and Walkin Wheels.  I don’t have first hand experience with Walkin’ Wheels carts but I talked to a few people who do and they passionately defend their choice in dog carts and are not afraid to tell you about their distaste for the competition.  Luckily since competition always benefits the consumer this means good news for us. Walkin’ Wheels Cart Benefits Folds flat for easy...

Update… The MyDogHasDM eBook is now available through Amazon. The MyDogHasDM eBook is a personal journey containing all the feelings, emotions, and frustrations experienced while caring for a dog with degenerative myelopathy.  I have tried to include as many tips and techniques as possible but more than a guide book I wanted to tell the personal side of the story.  That caring for a dog with DM is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but it’s also something I’m extremely proud of.  I hope that by reading my stories with Wrangler you’ll be able to identify with some of the same...

Eddie’s Wheels Dog Carts

Posted on Aug 14, 2013 in Blog, Dog Carts, Eddie's Wheels

For those of you that already have a cart for your dog this isn’t anything you don’t already know.  However, for anyone new coming to the site choosing the best cart for your dog can seem a little confusing.  In my opinion it’s a case of too much information.  When you first find out your dog has degenerative myelopathy and you decide you want to get a cart your search will inevitably lead you to Eddie’s Wheels.  In my opinion Eddie’s Wheels carts are great for dogs with DM. My only complaint about Eddie’s Wheels is that for a first time visitor to their website...
